Ruth and Stolly have taken DIY weddings to the next level with absolutely everything DIY from the details on her shoes to the flowers and fern table centrepieces.

The dress code for men were ‘Jazzy Suits’ while the women dressed in ‘Festival Fancy’ to make sure the photos were bright, colourful and full of character! We’re in love with this wedding, especially since they danced in a clearing in the wood with a pic ‘n’ mix tree (yes, that’s a tree covered in hanging sweets and chocolates – yum!), fire pits, a pizza oven, DJs and more – it was like a mini Glastonbury!

How did you meet?
At nursery school when we were 2. We did the school run together but weren’t particularly fond of each other though our families remained friends. We then ended up at the same university and have been together for nearly 10 years.


How did you propose?

Stolly tricked me in to what I thought was a business trip to Moscow, I couldn’t believe it when he said it had all been an elaborate ruse and got down on one knee. We had the most incredible weekend exploring the city in an excited haze.

What was your favourite thing about the wedding?
The ceremony, it was magical in the woods, surrounded by our favourite people – but it still managed to feel like it was just us.


What tip would you give couples planning their wedding?

Enjoy every minute, don’t worry about the small things because no one will notice them.

Apart from getting married, what’s the best thing you’ve done together?
Living in Hong Kong, we moved there for 3 years straight after uni and had the best time exploring Asia. That’s where I started my company Ruth Stolerman Design.

Did you have a honeymoon? If so, tell us all about where you went and what you loved about it.
We went to Tanzania but sadly got a tropical disease and were bed bound and are still unwell months later so it wasn’t the best holiday. We’ll have another one though and Stolly makes a great nurse which is good to know!

That’s so hard as we love everything. We drink a lot of jasmine tea so the kettle definitely gets the most use.

We loved that everything was individually wrapped, such a great touch. It was so exciting putting everything where it should be, our home has been completely transformed.

What’s the most exciting thing you’re looking forward to as a married couple?
Lots more adventures, there’s still so much of the world we want to see. We also desperately want a dog!

What’s your favourite date activity?
Almost all our gifts are experiences as you remember them forever. We both absolutely love our food and take a long time researching fun restaurants to try. Everything from cheap local dim sum restaurants to really special places for birthdays.

What’s your interior style?
I love mixing textures, colours, patterns, etc and bringing them all together to make a beautiful, calm, coherent space. In fact, I wrote a blog post about how to do just that with your wedding list!
