THE ZETTER MARYLEBONE FOR: COCKTAIL WIZARDRY AND SMALL-SCALE SPLENDOUR

The Zetter Townhouse Marylebone is a true Brit eccentric (allegedly the lodgings of one-storied ‘Uncle Seymour’). The low-lit bar is a romantic setting for cocktails shaken with rose vodka, absinthe, Peruvian bitters and such (from the mad-genius mind of mixologist Tony Conigliaro). And, the penthouse Edward Lear Suite is a scaled-down stately home with a frescoed, domed ceiling, majestic bed haloed by a ciel a lit and artfully picked curios. It’s a bit of an exhibitionist too: the open-air bathtub on the balcony fits two...

THE NOMAD HOTEL, NEW YORK

Beautiful Beaux Arts hotel the NoMad encourages a little naughtiness with its surfeit of cosy low-lit nooks in its library lounge and sultry mahogany-lined bar. Some rooms (dressed in typically decadent style by designer Jacques Garcia) have peekaboo screens and by-the-bed (and window) bathtubs. The talents behind stratospheric NYC restaurant Eleven Madison Park are on dining duty: try sea urchin tacos and duck with kumquat, or their signature dish: a simple yet slam-dunk roast chicken, and suss out the daring flavour profiles mixed up on the cocktail menu.

BOHO HOTEL: MODERN DIGS AND THE MAGIC OF THE OLD TOWN

BoHo Hotel’s cool colour palette of dove grey and cerulean and its few-frills aesthetic favouring neutral woods and clean lines, marks it out as one of Prague’s most modern-minded hotels. But there are still design traces of its tenure as an Art Deco post office, and it’s set close enough to the Old Town to swoon over the fairy-tale romance found within. Couples can indulge in daily free Czech-wine tastings (in the library at 5pm), massages in the intimate spa and lavish breakfast spreads to cure any honeymoon-night hangovers.

Lydmar Hotel, Stockholm For: love-nest feathering and gallery lingering in Sweden

Any Swedish stay worth its pink Himalayan sea salt is dressed to impress, but the Lydmar Hotel appears especially well-attired. Formerly a rock-and-roll hangout, Pelle Lydmar’s city hideaway has grown up to be both glamorous and laidback (staff often wear their own clothes and are especially welcoming). Swedish artist Thomas Nordanstad curated the gallery in the lobby stairwell and masters of interiors Stylt Trampoli have picked out Chinese linens, satin and velvet Italian sofas and beds ranging from sleigh to four poster (covered in throws with blush-inducing prints) to make rooms minimooner-ready. When you’ve Instagrammed each corner of your room, admire the hotel’s prints and photographs, dine on exceptional seafood or flop into a seat on the French-style sun terrace.
